Targeted Materials

These prizes provide recognition opportunities to schools that work to target specific materials. To be eligible for this recognition, schools must provide a breakdown of their recycling numbers by commodity. This is an optional section of the RecycleMania data form and a way for schools that are focusing efforts on specific waste streams to receive additional recognition for their efforts.

Food Service Organics
Colleges and universities are encouraged to report food service organics recycling numbers to RecycleMania. These numbers are for targeted recognition only and may not be used in your total recycling number for the other competitions.

Food service organics include food and its associated compostable waste (e.g., napkins, paper towels) collected from food service areas for recycling.

RecycleMania will calculate your results using the following equation:

Weight of Food Service Orgainics from Food Services Areas divided by Population Figure*

Bottles and Cans
RecycleMania will calculate your results using the following equation:

Weight of Bottles and Cans Collected from Entire Campus or Specified Area of Campus divided by Population Figure*

Corrugated Cardboard
RecycleMania will calculate your results using the following equation:

Weight of Corrugated Cardboard Collected from Entire Campus or Specified Area of Campus divided by Population Figure*

Paper
RecycleMania will calculate your results using the following equation:

Weight of Paper Collected from Entire Campus or Specified Area of Campus divided by Population Figure*

*The population figure will be derived using the methodology for calculating the campus population.
