• To increase our recycling percentage by significantly decreasing contamination. This will be accomplished through frequent educational campaigns that will address the issue of contamination specifically.

How will your university SPECIFICALLY measure the recyclables? Will you use volume based or actual weight measurements?:

Washington University will use visual assessment to measure the recyclables. Full bins will be weighed before the start of the competition. Each week a housekeeper will count the full bins before they are picked up and this number will be multiplied by the previously established base weight per full bin to calculate the total number of pounds recycled for the week. There are approximately 3,600 students living on-campus as of January 1, 2004. This number will be used to calculate pounds recycled per student.
